OceanLED is by far the most popular and most widely distributed marine lighting brand in the world. The UK-based company has been accredited with kick starting the marine LED revolution back in 2005 and is still to this day, changing how boat owners light up the night.

  • HID contains mercury?

For the past decade a technology called HID or High Intensity Discharge has plagued superyacht underwater lighting.

HID technology is deadly for the marine environment. There is enough mercury inside a single bulb to pollute 6,000 liters of drinking water beyond safe levels, forever!

It takes just one teaspoon of mercury to pollute a 20-acre lake; fish and livestock will pass this along the food chain, the lake will be contaminated forever. There is no way of removing mercury from water or from the human body.

HID bulbs get ferociously hot and use huge amounts of power not only when they're on, but also just to get them started. Turn them off and you have to wait 20 minutes before you can turn them back on. And when they break from extreme heat, vibration, or grease from human touch during installation the resulting contamination is life threatening.

    There is a cure?

The AV150 from OceanLED is the first direct replacement for 150w HID underwater lights. To install, simply remove the existing assembly, fit the AV150 neatly in place and connect to the existing power. With the advent of Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, all HID lights can now be retro-fitted with a system that runs cooler and is over 60% more efficient.
