OceanLED Ltd sells subsidiary Lietcorp, restructures, renamed OceanLED Marine Ltd

Underwater LED lighting leader refocuses its attention and funding on its leading brand

Hinckley, Leicestershire, UK – 21 March, 2014 – For the past four years the directors of OceanLED Limited, a UK-based manufacturing facility, have been developing two distinct business divisions, the marine underwater lighting business, OceanLED, and a separate commercial non-marine lighting division, trading as Lietcorp. The reality of building these two businesses has been significant management distraction and financial stress. The parent company, OceanLED Ltd, was placed into administration on Friday 14th March in order to facilitate a management buy-out of both companies. OceanLED USA LLC is not affected.

The management of OceanLED’s marine division have now bought out the assets of the marine business and secured investor funding to continue to build the world’s leading underwater lighting company. OceanLED Marine Limited is the new company and is 100% focused on working with and serving its diverse marine customers. OceanLED will continue to manufacture the most popular and most widely distributed marine lighting brand. The UK-based company’s product line serves a multitude of uses on board for all types and sizes of boats; from 3 meter RIBS to the largest superyachts. Continuing projects at some of the most prestigious boat yards and boat builders, along with a loyal dealer network across the globe, is testament to OceanLED's advanced technical achievements, industry recognition, and constant pursuit of excellence in the field of marine lighting.

Lietcorp has been acquired by Future Energy Lighting Technologies Ltd. Lietcorp, for some time, had looked to move away from its parent company to focus on its commercial products and believes the buy-out will secure a long-term future in the lighting industry. The acquisition allows further investment in creating cutting edge lighting technology.

“Despite the slight disruption in our manufacturing and shipping schedules earlier in the year, we’re eager to continue to bring to market, and expedite the delivery of, our new Amphibian Xtreme Series and Pro Series HD Gen2 underwater lights”, said Derek Duffill, CEO. “Customers can rest assured that their OceanLED products are the best and brightest in the industry, are protected by our 2-year warranty, and that we’ll continue to lead the industry we introduced back in 2004 for many years to come.”

OceanLED is mourning the tragic loss of a dear friend and supporter

OceanLED was devastated to hear the news that our long-time friend, business confidant and supporter, Phil Keeping, has passed away after a tragic accident earlier this week.

Philip Keeping was a soft-spoken, unassuming man with an exceptional understanding of how boats work and a passion to optimize their operation. He was a technological tour de force and owner-engineer of the world's first new-build yacht to be entirely fitted with LED lighting; he played a huge part in the project. Not many owners could be found in the engine room dressed in overalls and wiping oil from their hands; and fewer still able to not only explain how the equipment worked but also fully maintain it.

Phil was a proud Newfoundlander and founder of cable companies including N1 Cable TV and Cable Bahamas where he was chairman for 14 years. For the past 40 years Phil dedicated his life to developing the telecom industry in Canada, the Bahamas and Florida. Phil was 65.

We offer our sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers to Phil's wife and family.

Funeral services are being held today in St. John's.

OceanLED's "Cure for HID"

For the past decade a technology called HID or High Intensity Discharge has plagued superyacht underwater lighting.

HID technology is deadly for the marine environment. There is enough mercury inside a single bulb to pollute 6,000 liters of drinking water beyond safe levels, forever!

It takes just one teaspoon of mercury to pollute a 20-acre lake; fish and livestock will pass this along the food chain, the lake will be contaminated forever. There is no way of removing mercury from water or from the human body.

HID bulbs get ferociously hot and use huge amounts of power not only when they’re on, but also just to get them started. Turn them off and you have to wait 20 minutes before you can turn them back on. And when they break from extreme heat, vibration, or grease from human touch during installation the resulting contamination is life threatening.

The only alternative technology for a very precise, fit-for-purpose fixture has been from OceanLED. Better still, OceanLED is set to release its new LED retro-fit technology for all HID underwater lighting.
The new AV150 underwater LED light, termed as ‘The Cure for HID’, simply slides into the ships existing housing or cofferdam, whilst the guts of the HID – the bulb and ballast - can be removed and safely recycled.

With light output 20% brighter, colour change options, dimming capabilities, a panic mode strobe feature, and huge reductions in electrical consumption and heat exposure, the AV150 cures all the symptoms associated with HID and modernizes any yacht instantly with safe, green technology.
